According to an idea of A. Weil zeta functions can be associated to Chevalley groups over the p-adic numbers by a certain integral via the Haar measure of the considered group. A. Lubotzky and M. du Sautoy evaluated these integrals and discovered a rational function W(X,Y), so that for each prime p the p-adic zeta function can be obtained as W(p,1/p^s). W(X,Y) is only dependent on some combinatorial data of the root system of the group and the choice of representation, but not on p.

Making use of the structure of the Weyl group associated to the root system a simplified formulation of W(X,Y) is developped in my thesis.

A global Zeta function can be associated to a Chevalley group by the product of all p-adic Zeta functions. Except for the general linear group these Euler products are not meromorphically continuable to the whole of C, but only to some right half plane. This observation gave raise to the definition of the ghost, which is again a two variable rational function. It is defined as the result of a geometric construction in the Newton diagram of W(X,Y), and the Euler product built out of it turns out to be meromorphically continuable to the whole of C for almost all irreducible representations.

For the natural representation I developped in my thesis a formula for the ghost, which is very similar to that for W(X,Y). Therefore this new formula offers an immediate connection between the ghost and the considered group.
